Autographs

The memories held in the cabins of camp are too numerous to post. It was so much fun to break the rules and sign our name somewhere in those cabins. I wonder when they were torn down if anybody gave any thought to the many names inside the cabins. so many names and so many memories. Another question - why did Prof feel the need to change the names of the cabins when he took over camp? Was it his was of making the camp his?

When I attended Camp Wampatuck for the first time in 1963 the cabins had the old names and Prof. Longley was director that year. I don't know when he started as director, but I was 10 and assigned to Cabin Mohawk. Mohawk later became Apache for 14 year old campers. My second summer, 1964, all the cabins had been renamed and I was assigned to Cabin Dakota. I think (but am not certain) that one used to be Pawnee. The cabins not only had new names, but new age groups were assigned to them as well. I was only 11 at the time and had only been there one summer before, but the changes still freaked me out.

Actually, now that I think of it, the names may not have been changed until 1965. It's all a bit foggy, but I may have been in Pawnee as Pawnee in 1964 and then again the next year when it was renamed Dakota. The more I type the more memories come rushing into my head. Someone please correct me if I am wrong in any factual memory.
